[ARCHIVED] Fixed Pickleball Nets Installed at Bramble Park for Extended Trial

Pickleball News

COQUITLAM, B.C., July 8, 2021 – Coquitlam pickleball enthusiasts can continue to hone their drop and dink shots at Bramble Park following a successful trial.

The Coquitlam park’s tennis courts were recently modified with the installation of pickleball nets, based on positive results from a pilot held June 7 to 20. To meet growing demand for the popular paddle sport, the City has converted two of Bramble Park’s three tennis courts to four pickleball courts with painted lines and fixed nets.

Court use and public feedback shows that the sport of pickleball – which uses a whiffle ball and combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis – is attracting both former tennis players and new devotees in ever-increasing numbers in Coquitlam.

The temporary pickleball courts at Bramble Park were welcomed by both individual players and the new PoCoMo Pickleball Club during the trial, during which users were required to bring their own nets.

With this conversion now complete, the City will monitor use, feedback and demand for pickleball and tennis services across the City on an ongoing basis, and will consider adjustments as needed. Feedback will continue to be welcomed at parks@coquitlam.ca.

Although one tennis court is still available for dual use, tennis players who usually play at Bramble are encouraged to try out the recently resurfaced courts at nearby Panorama Park and Eagle Ridge Park, or see www.coquitlam.ca/tennis for other options.

The new PoCoMo Pickleball Club will also have dedicated timeslots at Bramble Park, available for its members. For information about the club, visit https://infopro.ca/ppc or contact them through the website.

Information about Coquitlam’s pickleball courts, including the City’s Tennis and Pickleball Services and Facilities Strategy, can be found at www.coquitlam.ca/pickleball.
