Road & Sidewalk Closure Permit

Effective September 2024, Fees for Road and Sidewalk Closure Permits are:

  • $150.00 for initial permits; and
  • $75.00 for renewal permits.

Initial Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit

A Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit is required whenever the City's road right-of-ways need to be accessed due to construction work.  The City must grant approval prior to the closure of any travel lane or sidewalk.  

An application for an Initial Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit must be submitted a minimum of 10 business days prior to the intended closure date. 

When the location, type of work, or the type of traffic controls change from what was approved for with the Initial Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit, a  new Initial Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit is required.  A Renewal Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit may not be used in this situation. 

As stated above, the application for an Initial Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit must be received a minimum of 10 business days prior to the intended closure.  

Fee: $150.00

Renewal Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit

A Renewal Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit extends the rights and privileges of the approved Initial Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit.  It is required when the original timeline needs to be extended.  

A Renewal Road and Sidewalk Closure Permit application needs to be received a minimum of 5 business days prior to the intended extension date.   

Fee: $75.00

All permit applications, initial and renewal, must be filled out and emailed in PDF format to StreetPermits@coquitlam.ca.

Please note: Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. 

Important Information

Only vehicles actively engaged in the performance of cleaning, clearing, maintenance, repair, construction or other work are permitted within work zones. 

Vehicles being used by Superintendents, Traffic Control Persons, and other construction personnel that are not actively engaged in work described above are not permitted within the work zone and are not permitted parking /stopping prohibitions.

Closures of sidewalks, cycling facilities, lanes, and full road closures are only permitted during the time periods indicated on the approved permit. Traffic controls are not permitted outside of these approved permit hours.  

Other Documents

  • Prime Contractor Designation (PDF) - A completed and signed City of Coquitlam Prime Contractor Designation letter is required.
  • Certificate of Insurance (PDF) - A certificate of insurance with proof of commercial general liability insurance valid for the duration of the permit and naming the City of Coquitlam as additional insured.
