COQUITLAM, B.C., November 7, 2024 – The City is planning to improve safety and accessibility for people walking, biking and driving along Pipeline Road between Guildford Way and Lincoln Avenue with a new street design that will include a protected micromobility lane. Community members are encouraged to share feedback that will help shape the final upgrade plans for the corridor through upcoming engagement opportunities. 

Planned Changes to the Road

Pipeline Road is an important transportation corridor, connecting key destinations within the City Centre area. To reduce risks and improve safety and access for all road users, the following changes are planned:

• Construction of a new two-way micromobility lane separated from vehicle traffic by concrete curbs, suitable for people of all ages and abilities
• Road safety and accessibility improvements, including new turn signals, signal operation changes, separated turn lanes and more crosswalks along the corridor
• Changes to parking and loading zones, including new time restrictions for some on-street parking and the creation of loading zones for school drop-off/pick-up and delivery vehicles 

Construction is planned for the summer of 2025 in order to occur at the same time as the scheduled road repaving on Pipeline Road between Guildford Way and Inlet Street. Learn more about the project, including maps and drawings of the planned changes online at LetsTalkCoquitlam.ca/Pipeline.  

Learn More and Provide Input

Residents, visitors and frequent users of this area of Pipeline Road are encouraged to share their thoughts on the project plans and help shape the final design. Attend the drop-in information session and share your thoughts via the online survey. 

• Information Session: Wednesday, November 20, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Glen Elementary Gym, 3064 Glen Drive (Children’s colouring table will be available, parent supervision required.)
• Online Survey: Open November 12 to December 3 at LetsTalkCoquitlam.ca/Pipeline. 

Next Steps

Input received via the survey and information session will be considered alongside transportation design best practices, the City’s strategic plans, and other factors to inform the final design, which will be presented to Council in early 2025. Construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2025.

 The following are part of long-term projects that will bring infrastructure and safety improvements for residents and all road users: 

• The Pipeline Road (David Avenue to Guildford Way) Upgrade Project is focused on improving road safety and active transportation options, increasing road capacity, and making Town Centre Park easier to access.
