The Coquitlam Animal Shelter offers a pet surrender program for Coquitlam residents. We understand this can be a difficult and emotional decision and are here to support both you and your pet.
How to Surrender Your Pet
- Complete the Pet Surrender Form (PDF): Provide detailed information about your pet to ensure we can meet their needs.
- Approval Process: Surrender requests are evaluated based on shelter capacity, as well as your pet’s medical and behavioural assessment.
- Pay Surrender Fees: Fees vary depending on your pet’s type, age and medical requirement.
Explore Rehoming Options
Before surrendering your pet, consider rehoming them through:
- Social media or Petfinder.
- Local rescue organizations or breed clubs.
- Contacting the breeder or shelter where you got your pet.
Important Notes
- Waitlist: Due to high demand, there is currently a waitlist for all animals. We cannot guarantee a timeline for surrender requests.
- Other Residents: Residents of Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and Pitt Meadows may also apply, with approval from their city’s management team.
