Future Planning Projects

A possible major facility or facilities may be needed for future growth in City Centre, which is expected to see an increase in population from 32,000 (2018) to 55,000 people (2046).

Long term planning has identified the aspiration for a larger civic theatre as the population grows and demand for performing space increases.

Known as the “four corners,” the City properties at the four corners of Guildford Drive and Pinetree Way have been identified for future civic, recreation and cultural uses. A strategic review of the potential use of these properties is part of the City Centre Area Plan update.

Long-term planning has identified the aspiration for a major sports field complex at Gilley’s Trail in Northeast Coquitlam that may include multi-sport facilities. This is likely to be identified for planning as development proceeds on Burke Mountain, potentially around 2030.

Summit, Centennial, Smiling Creek and Pinetree Community Centre are School District 43 partner facilities that will be evaluated in the next decade for continued service efficiency and long-term use. There is no immediate urgency to address these spaces, but future considerations will need to consider service continuity for both SD43 and the City.
